April Fools Day
Well today is the 1st of April which we all know is April Fools Day, unfortunately I’m not awesome enough into fooling anyone today, but I thought i might post a hoax I heard happened on the 1st of April 1981 in London.
London runs a marathon every year aptly titled; “The London Marathon”, The Daily Mail ran a story about a Japanese long distance runner who travelled to London and whom as a result of a translation error believed the marathon spanned 26 days, it was then followed with a report that he was still somewhere out on the roads of England and was determined to finish the race, numerous people had seen the man but had not been able to flag him down. The translation error was said to be that of a novice translater who had only known Japanese for a little over 2 years. The translater was interviewed and quoted as saying: ”I translated the rules and sent them off to him. But I have only been learning Japanese for two years, and I must have made a mistake. He seems to be taking this marathon to be something like the very long races they have over there.”
